22nd Punjab Native Infantry Officers 18mm Button

A Victorian 18mm example of a 22nd Punjab NI officer’s gilt button with Victorian crown. The button appears to pre-date 1886 when the term Native was dropped from the title of infantry regiments. The back mark is E. W. JACKSON LONDON. The button has just a little loss of gilt to some of the highest points of detail, The 22nd was formed in 1857 as part of the Punjab forces fighting the rebels of that year. Two of its companies were formed of Sikhs. The regiment became part of the 2nd Punjab Regt in the 1922 reforms.
