Established in 1927 in British India, this battalion has left an indelible mark on the annals of the British Indian Army. Since its inception, the 3rd Battalion has played an integral role in shaping history. Its origins can be traced back to the valiant actions of the Coast Sepoys in 1759, making it the senior-most surviving infantry battalion of the British Indian Army. Over the years, it has exhibited unwavering courage and distinguished itself on numerous battlefields.

During the tumultuous era of the 20th century, the 3rd Battalion actively participated in significant campaigns and operations. It fought with unwavering determination in the Mesopotamian Campaign during World War I and was instrumental in the Third Afghan War. In World War II, it fearlessly ventured into the heart of battle, leaving its mark in India, Iraq, North Africa, Burma, Singapore, Dutch East Indies, and Japan. In 1947, following the partition of British India, the battalion transitioned into the newly-formed armies of India and Pakistan, carrying forward its legacy of bravery.
