He accompanied Count Michel Woronzow a distinguished nobleman and his countess on their return to Russia starting off from Dover on 20th September 1827, returning home mid January in 1828 "In 1859 James Oliphant was installed as Equerry to the Maharajah Duleep Singh at the recommendation of Sir John Login.
