Capt. [George| Le Grand Jacob as Political Superintendent of Sawuntwaree to Parke

These documents are a true copy of a 4-page letter dated 5' April 1845 from Capt. [George| Le Grand Jacob as Political Superintendent of Sawuntwaree to Parker, attested over the latter's signature. Jacob states that although most of the Insurgent Leaders are still at large " the Country is gradually quieting down in consequence of the vigorous measures pursued by Lieut. Colonel Outram. He notes that several of the leaders have surrendered or been apprehended by the Portuguese, and lists the twenty 'most important and not yet secured' together with the rewards offered for their apprehension. Outram was at the time of writing in Goa 'engaged in a very delicate mission from the Bombay Government respecting the aid furnished by the people of the Goa territory to the insurgents', so Jacob recommends that 'no retrograde movement' of troops from the frontier be undertaken until these negotiations are settled.
