Maharaja Duleep Singh was born in Lahore, Punjab on September 6, 1838 and was the youngest son of Maharaja Ranjit Singh and Maharani Jind Kaur. He became the ruler of the Sikh Empire at the age of five, but was later deposed and exiled to Britain by the British East India Company in 1849. Despite being in exile, Maharaja Duleep Singh remained an important figure in Sikh history and passed away in Paris on October 22, 1893.
