First (Duke of Connaught's Own) Bombay Lancers Indian officers, 1900 The 1st Bombay Light Cavalry participated in the 1st Afghan War (1838-1842) and the 2nd Sikh War after being created from the Bombay Squadron of Cavalry during the 3rd Maratha War (1816–1819). (1845-1846). Throughout the Indian Mutiny, it remained obedient (1857-1859). The 1st Bombay Lancers and 1st (Duke of Connaught's Own) Bombay Lancers were the new names for the regiment in 1880 and 1890, respectively. The regiment changed its name to the 31st Duke of Connaught's Own Lancers in 1903 after the Indian Army underwent organisational changes. The 13th Duke of Connaught's Own Bombay Lancers, which it combined with its sister unit, the 32nd Lancers, to become in 1923, was later renamed the 13th Duke of Connaught's Lancers.With the partition of India the 13th Lancers became part of the Pakistan Army.
