Found this gem from 1862

Found this gem from 1862! A private letter by John Lawrence about Major Peter Lumsden's service and suitability as a husband. Lawrence, who was on leave as Lieutenant Governor of Punjab, reassures Mrs. Marriott about Lumsden's character and praises his service in India. Lawrence also mentions the Lumsden brothers - Henry, William, and Peter - who served with him in Punjab. William, unfortunately, lost his life in battle, while Henry became one of the most distinguished soldiers in India. And, of course, Peter - who later became General Sir Peter Lumsden - was also an excellent and distinguished soldier. It's fascinating to read about the lives of these men and their contributions to history, especially in relation to the Sikh Panth. Provenance: From an old archive of material by General Sir Peter Stark Lumsden, G.C.B., C,S,I,, A.D.C.
