History of the 2nd King Edward's Own Goorkha Rifles (the Sirmoor Rifles) [1912, Indian Army] by Colonel L W Shakespear (Leslie Waterfield) Publication date 1912 The 2nd King Edward VII's Own Gurkha Rifles, known as The Sirmoor Rifles, was a rifle regiment of the British Indian Army and later the British Army. Formed in 1815, it saw action in several conflicts, including the First and Second World Wars. The regiment was noted for its exceptional service and bravery, earning numerous battle honors. In 1947, during India's independence, it was transferred to the British Army, continuing to serve in various international deployments until 1994, when it amalgamated into the Royal Gurkha Rifles. The regiment is distinguished for not having a khukuri on its cap badge, unlike other Gurkha regiments.
