Born into anaval family in the quaint village of Papcastle, Cockermouth, Maria Graham embarked on a remarkable journey that shaped her destiny. In 1808, she set sail for British India alongside her father, George Dundas, the rear-admiral of the blue.

Maria's path intertwined with Captain Thomas Graham R.N., marking the beginning of their shared life. United in marriage in 1809. Tragically, in 1822, her life took a somber turn with the untimely passing of Captain Graham. However, in 1827 when she found love again and married artist Augustus Wall Callcott. Maria Graham's life, marked by adventure, love, and creativity, remains a testament to her enduring spirit and her significant contributions to literature and art.
