Kaisar-I-Hind Medal, a bronze issue

The Kaisar-i-Hind Medal was introduced by Queen Victoria in 1900 to reward public service in India carried out by people of all races and it was initially issued in gold or silver. During the reign of George V the size of the medal was reduced and this example is of the new 3rd class bronze issue, 60 x 32mm. Although called a medal it is classified as a decoration, taking precedence just aftr the Orders of British India and Burma. Originally the medal was issued with a small decorative bar at the top of the ribbon but in this case it is missing. One of our illustrations shows Maharaja Sir Ganga Singh of Bikaner wearing his large gold version.
