Smith’s career was so long and varied that it is hard to exaggerate the reach. From serving in South America, the Penninsula, fighting with his brothers at Waterloo, to India at Maharajpore and most famously at Aliwal in the Sutlej, the Kafir War in Africa, Governor of the Cape, etc. Smith died without issue after romantically marrying the wife he rescued in the Peninsula.
