Prof. Padam's educational background included traditional Sikh schooling, which fostered his deep interest in old handwritten works. He possessed proficiency in Braj and Folk literature and gained recognition for his editorial work on medieval Punjabi literature through the scrutiny of ancient manuscripts. He also played a significant role in reintroducing many forgotten Punjabi authors. His prose style was distinct and captivating. Additionally, he contributed to the preparation of several valuable reference works on Sikh scriptures. Throughout his career, Piara Singh Padam received numerous accolades and honors. Notably, he was awarded the Punjabi Sahit Shriomani award in 1977 by the Language Department Punjab, Patiala, along with several other awards from literary and Sikh organizations.
