Being the Journal of a Tour in India. Two volumes. London, J. Murray, 1832. MUNDY, GODFREY CHARLES: First edition of this personal account of a hunting trip by Mundy (1804-60), a British Major General who took part in the Siege of Bharatpur in 1825. He travelled through Benares, Lucknow, the Taj-Mahal, Simla and Delhi. The charming plates are made after drawings by the author himself, of which many depict elephant and tiger scenes. "Traveling throughout India, the author hunted tiger near the Ganges and in the Dehra Dun. He spent time among the Mahrattas, observed wild elephants, and participated in antelope hunting with cheetahs and falcons. He also hunted lion between Pewur and Hansi, and thgouh none were obtained, Mundy includes a discussion of the lion hunting exploits of Col. James Skinner and William Fraser. The plates of tiger hunting from elephant back are quite striking"
