Punjabi writer

Punjabi writer and scholar Piara Singh Padam (Prof.) (05/28/19 21-05/01/2001) was born in the village of Ghungrana Pargana in the Ludhiana district,Parents Nand Kaur and Gurnam Singh He married Jaswant Kaur. He began his career as a lecturer at the Shahid Seek Missionary University in Amritsar (1943-1947). He was the editor of Gurdwara Gazette (1948-1950), SGPC in Amritsar. Later, he joined Patiala's Department of Punjab (1950-1965) and edited the Punjabi magazine Duniya. He was appointed as a Special Senior Oriental Fellow of the Sriggle Grants Sahib Research Department at the University of Punjabi, Patiala (1966-1983). Professor Padam was a product of a traditional Sikh school and had a deep interest in ancient manuscripts. He learned Brazi and folklore. After examining ancient manuscripts, he edited medieval Punjabi literature. It is also his credit to introduce many forgotten Punjabi writers. His prose style is unique and interesting. He also prepared some useful reference books on Sikh scriptures. He received the Punjabi Sahit Shriomani Award (1977) from Patiala's Punjab Language Department, among other awards from many literature and Sikh organizations.
