Regimental History of the 1st Battalion 8th Punjab Regiment

The Regimental History of the 1st Battalion 8th Punjab Regiment is being revived, shedding light on the remarkable journey of the 89th Punjabis during World War I. This unit holds the distinction of serving manytheaters of war during the conflict. They participated in campaigns across Aden, Egypt, Gallipoli, France, Mesopotamia, the North West Frontier of India, Salonika, and the Russian Transcaucasia. Despite their brief deployment to Gallipoli, where they were withdrawn after two weeks, the 89th Punjabis' contributions are noteworthy. The official reason for their withdrawal was the opposition of their Brigade commander to using Muslim troops against the Turks. The Regimental History, which has long been out of print, will help fill gaps in the accounts of these campaigns and honor the brave soldiers of the 1st Battalion 8th Punjab Regiment.
