Hira Singh took part in the agitation for the restoration of the walls of Gurdwara Likabganj destroyed by British forces. He published a pamphlet on the subject which excited the entire Sikh community. He was one of his gurus at his school in 1915 to give recitations of Grant Sahib, one of the passengers of the Komagata Maru who was martyred by British bullets at Hugrisbadge Budge Ghat, Calcutta. In 1920, when Master Sundar Singh Rayalpuri founded the Punjabi-language daily Akari from Lahore and appointed Mangal Singh as editor, Hira Singh was appointed deputy editor. Purvan published in Amritsar until 1930, then in Lahore, in 1942 Hira His Singh was arrested for Quit His India Movement. Hira Singh served as secretary of his League of Sikhs and a member of the SGPC. He was also a member of the Punjab State Congress Committee and the All India Congress Committee.
