The 1911 Delhi Durbar with the 18th Bengal Lancers

Step back in time as we open the pages of our recently acquired album, revealing a glimpse of history - a photograph from the 1911 Delhi Durbar. This event commemorated the coronation of King George V and Queen Mary as Emperor and Empress of India. The Delhi Durbar of 1911 was a grand affair, lasting from 7 to 16 December, with the central event, the "Durbar and Proclamation," held on 12 December. Distinguished dignitaries, princely rulers, and members of the colonial British royal family gathered to witness this historic occasion.

Among the esteemed attendees, we find the 18th Bengal Lancers, exuding elegance and refinement in their uniforms, representing the valor and honor of the British Indian military forces. And look closely in the lower right corner, and you'll notice the entourage of Bhuri Singh Chamba, the ruler of the princely state of Chamba.
