There is detail about the battles of Ramnagar, Chillianwalla, and Gujrat" (Chopra). Lawrence-Archer (1823-1889), was gazetted second-lieutenant in the 39th Foot in December 1840, and served with the 24th Foot throughout the war. He went on half-pay as a captain in January 180g and remained on the half-pay list until his death in February 1889. He spent his later years in the composition of a range of historical and genealogical works. Provenance: ownership inscription to half-title, "A. J. A.
