THE PUNJAUB

BEING A BRIEF ACCOUNT OF THE COUNTRY OF THE SIKHS LIEUT. COLONEL STEINBACH LANGUAGE DEPARTMENT, PUNJAB Punjab is a brief description of the Sikh Raj. Its scope, history, trade, production, government, manufacturing, law and religion were first published in 1845 by Henry Steinbach. Lieutenant Colonel Henry Steinbach was a Prussian hired by Maharaja Ranjit Shin Ji's Khalsa Darbar as a battalion commander for the 600 RS in 1836 and had increased to 800 RS by 1841. In 1841 he commanded a battalion of Sikhs, and by his own testimony he apparently fled in his life during the 1843 Sikh rebellion. Steinbach contains the entire chapter dedicated to the Sikh religion. (A Reprint)
