The Raj "Franklin Mint Chess Set" Rare – 1900's Franklin Mint ‘The Raj’ Chess Set "The RAJ" hand-painted India-British War 1857, Franklin Mint highest quality metal chess set game year 1986 Rare Chess pieces; the Forces of the Rebellion-the Queen's Forces against the Mutineers. King size 3 1/2 inches tall. Queen size 3 1/4 inches tall. Bishop size 3 inches tall. Knight Size 3 inches tall. Rook size 3 inches tall. Pawn size 3 inches tall. The board is nicely carved with Rajasthani designs. The table is custom made for the figures, the table crafted with a mahogany finish and a chessboard with cast marble playing surface, the 32 playing figures situated in drawers below, includes "The forces of the Rebellion "and "The Queens Forces Against the Mutineers" figures. The pieces are a masterpiece in design and craftsmanship with quality that matches the fine detail and beauty. This set has long been discontinued. The Pawns are approx. 3 inches tall and the other pieces range from 2.5 to 3.75 inches tall. The set depicts the British vs. Indians in the Sepoy Indian Rebellion of 1857. The British pieces are marked "The Queen's Forces Against The Mutineers" and the Indian pieces are marked "The Forces of The Rebellion". The pieces are stored in a fitted drawer on each side. In very good condition for the age. Cherry wood table with board size 24 inches tall, 20 inches square-framed, Case with drawers: 20" x 20" x 3"25 H.
