Wanjara Nomad Collections Sikh Moments Competition (“Sikh Moments”) Competition Terms and Conditions

These are the standard terms and conditions (the “Terms”) applicable to the Sikh Moments Competition (the “Competition”).

1. Who May Enter

The Competition is open to all individuals who have reached the age of majority in their country of residence at the time of entry (“Entrants”). Members of the Sikh Moments Competition Jury, the Sikh Moments Committee and the Sikh Moments Advisory Board and their immediate family members are not eligible to participate during their terms as Jury, Committee or Advisory Board members and for one year following the end of their terms.

2. How to Enter

(a) To enter the Competition, Entrants must submit their unique work, in line with the category of the Sikh Moments they intend to apply for. The Entrants can apply to all three categories.

All submissions are to be sent to weshare@wanjaranomad.com.

(b) Photographs submitted are to be digital photographs, submitted at the highest resolution reasonably possible. The photograph should have no borders and no white or black framing. The file name must contain the name of the photographer, with no watermark or logo embedded in the image. Photographs are to be submitted via email at weshare@wanjaranomad.com.

(c) No communication or correspondence will be exchanged with Entrants except with those short listed, and those selected as a potential prize winner.

3. Entries

Photographs

(a) Photographs that violate or infringe upon another person’s copyright are not eligible.

(b) The Entrant warrants that their submissions is in the form if a visual art, which may include, but is not limited to, photography, drawings, paintings, digital art, illustrations, and other forms of visual representation.

(c) Entrants may submit up to a maximum of ten photographs in each cycle of the Competition. Submission of more than ten photographs may result in all photographs submitted by the Entrant being declared ineligible.

(d) Entrants represent and warrant that:

  • the individual(s), situation, context and location in and of the photograph are accurately represented in the Entry;
  • no individual was harmed in order to obtain the Entry;
  • recognizable individuals or groups are unlikely to risk reprisals, violence or rejection in their communities as a result of exposing their identity or personal story through the publication of their image;
  • when possible, permission to photograph was sought and received from all vulnerable recognizable subjects, such as children or disempowered individuals, depicted in an Entry; and
  • no payment or other form of compensation was provided to subjects in exchange for their photograph or consent.

Video

(a) Videos must have a minimum resolution of 480p.

(b) The Entrant warrants that their submission is in the form of a video, which may include, but is not limited to, short films, documentaries, animations, educational videos, instructional videos, and script-based videos such as plays or films

(c) Videos that violate or infringe upon another person’s copyright are not eligible. Entrants may use footage and material used in other published work, but the Entry itself must be original. Any permissions required to use materials or footage featured in the Entry not produced by the Entrant must have been obtained by the Entrant.

(d) Entrants may submit only one video in each cycle of the Competition. Submission of more than one video may result in all videos submitted by the Entrant being declared ineligible for that cycle.

(e) Video submissions must be in Punjabi and / or English.

(f) Video submissions must be a maximum of ten minutes.

(g) If graphic, violent or disturbing images are contained in an Entry, a warning of such will be clearly displayed at the beginning of the Entry.

(h) Entrants represent and warrant that:

  • the individual(s), organization(s), situation(s), context and location(s) in and of the video are accurately represented in the Entry;
  • no individual was harmed in order to obtain the Entry;
  • recognizable individuals or groups in the Entry are unlikely to risk reprisals, violence or rejection in their communities as a result of exposing their identity or personal story through the publication of their image; and
  • when possible, permission to record was sought and received from all vulnerable recognizable subjects depicted in the Entry, such as children or disempowered individuals.

Written Word / Narrative

By submitting an entry to the Sikh Moments Narrative competition, the Entrant hereby acknowledges and agrees to the following terms and conditions:

  • The Entrant warrants that their submission is in the form of a narrative, which may include, but is not limited to, poetry, short stories, personal essays, memoirs, narrative non-fiction, and scripts for plays or films, as well as folktales, fables, myths, legends, anecdotes, biographies, and autobiographies.
  • The Entrant agrees that the submissions is to be in the Punjabi or English language only.
  • The Entrant represents and warrants that the submission is an original work created by the Entrant and has not been previously published or submitted to any other competition.
  • The Entrant agrees that the Competition's theme may change on a monthly basis and the Entrant's submission must align with the theme of the current month.
  • The Entrant agrees that any submission that does not comply with the above terms and conditions will be disqualified from the Competition.
  • The Entrant agrees that the decision of the Competition's judges is final and binding in all matters related to the Competition.
  • The Entrant acknowledges and agrees that the Competition's organizer shall have the right to use, publish, and display the Entrant's submission in any media for any purpose in connection with the Competition.
  • The Entrant releases and holds the Organizer harmless from any and all claims, demands, and liability in connection with the submission and the Competition.
  • By submitting an entry to the Competition, the Entrant acknowledges that they have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.
  • The Wanjara Nomad Collections social media channels will be updated monthly with the theme of the month for the purpose of the Written Word/Narrative portion of the Sikh Moments Narrative Competition.

4. Shortlisted Entries

(a) Upon the conclusion of the submission cycle, the Wanjara Nomad Collections team will short list those Entrants to move forward with the final phase of the selection process.

(b) The short-listed Entrants will be contacted by the Wanjara Nomad Collections team, and will be required to submit a video, as per the below:

(i) Short-listed Entrants must provide:

aa) a brief biography of the Entrant, which includes a short description of post-secondary plans, and why they chose the specific scholarship to apply for.

bb) a private, downloadable link to their video on a platform of their choice (YouTube, Vimeo, or private site) (the video should not be publicly accessible);

4. Prizes

(a) There are three different categories to the competition, with different prizes allocated to each category, as per below:

i. CA $100 monthly prize, awarded to one recipient for the Written Word portion of the Sikh Moments Competition;

ii. CA $500 bi-annual prize, awarded to two (2) recipients for the Photography portion of the Sikh Moments Competition;

iii. CA $2,500 awarded once annually for the Video portion of the Sikh Moments Competition.

(b) The winning Entrant(s) will be contacted by the Wanjara Nomad Collections team with instructions on how to claim the prize.

(c) Prizes must be accepted as awarded and cannot be transferred, assigned, or substituted. The Sikh Moments reserves the right in its sole discretion to modify a portion of the prize if it cannot be awarded for any reason.

(d) Wanjara Nomad Collections shall not assume any liability for lost or misdirected prizes.

5. Selection of Winner

(a) The winning Entry(ies) in each cycle of the Competition will be selected by the Sikh Moments Competition Jury (the “Jury”) from all eligible Entries received during the period designated for entry in such cycle as set out on the Sikh Moments Competition page on the Wanjara Nomad Collections website, and the winning Entrants will be notified by email.

(b) The Jury reserves the right, in its sole discretion, not to select a winner in any cycle of the Competition and assumes no responsibility in the event that any cycle of the Competition cannot be conducted as planned for any reason including, without limitation, those beyond the control of the Jury, such as infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, or technical failures.

(c) All decisions of the Jury are final and binding.

(d) In the event a winning Entrant declines a prize, the Jury may, in its discretion, select an alternate winner.

6. License

By entering this Competition, each of the Entrants agrees that if he or she is one of the winners, he or she:

(a) represents and warrants to the Wanjara Nomad Collections Team that he or she owns the written and other works forming part of his or her Entry, and has the right to enter into this Agreement and to grant to the Wanjara Nomad Collections Team the licenses and other rights contemplated herein;

(b) shall and does hereby grant to the Wanjara Nomad Collections Team a perpetual, assignable, non-exclusive, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free license to use the written work(s) and other works forming part of his or her Entry for non-commercial purposes on the Wanjara Nomad Collections website, social media channels, and in printed and other materials relating to the Sikh Moments Competition, and the Wanjara Nomad Collections team and, in that regard and without limitation, to scan, copy, modify and create derivative works of such works.

7. Limitation of Liability

(a) By entering this Competition, all Entrants agree to and do hereby release, discharge, and hold harmless the Wanjara Nomad Collections Team and their partners, affiliates, subsidiaries, agents, employees, officers, directors and representatives, from any claims, losses and damages whatsoever arising out of his or her participation in this Competition or any Competition-related activities and the acceptance and use, misuse, or possession of any prize awarded hereunder.

(b) The Wanjara Nomad Collections Team assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, or delay in operation or transmission; communications line failure; theft or destruction of or unauthorized access to Entries or Entry forms; or alteration of Entries or Entry forms. The Wanjara Nomad Collections Team is not responsible for any problems with or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any email Entry to be received on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website, human errors of any kind, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to Entrants' or any other persons' computers related to or resulting from participation in, or uploading or downloading of any materials related to, this Competition.

8. Privacy / Personal Information

By submitting an Entry in the Competition, each Entrant grants the Wanjara Nomad Collections Team the right to use his or her name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address (“Personal Information”) for the purpose of administering the Competition, including but not limited to contacting and announcing the winner(s) and for publicity or promotional purposes relating to the Competition.

9. Right to Cancel or Suspend the Competition

The Wanjara Nomad Collections Team reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to terminate the Competition, in whole or in part, and or modify, amend or suspend the Competition or these Terms in any way, at any time, for any reason without prior notice.

By entering the Competition, Entrants agree to be bound by these Terms. This Agreement shall be governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the laws of Canada applicable therein.
